v2.0: A Major Release, a Leaner App

Major version numbers tend to come with big lists of new features. v2.0 was different. Alongside some genuinely useful additions, it included something rarer: deliberate removal.

What Was Removed

The Baking feature, introduced in an earlier version, was cut entirely. It was outside the core scope of what MyMealGrid is for. Meal planning, not baking management. Keeping it would have meant continued maintenance of a feature that didn't serve the main use case. Out it went.

That kind of discipline — knowing what a product shouldn't do — is harder than it looks. MyMealGrid is better for it.

The Serving Scaler

The public meal view now has x1/x2/x3/x4 multiplier buttons on each recipe card. Tap x2 and every ingredient quantity doubles instantly — including fractions. Half a teaspoon stays half a teaspoon until you scale, then it becomes a full teaspoon. No mental maths needed.

Meal Steps

Meals can now have their own steps, separate from the individual recipe instructions. Use this for cook-order guidance: "Start the roast at 2pm. Potatoes in at 3pm. Rest before serving." The kind of timing information that lives in your head and needs somewhere to live in the app.

Media Library Picker

Recipe and meal edit forms now offer two ways to set an image: upload a new one, or pick from images already in the Media Library. Useful when you want to reuse a photo or pull in something uploaded earlier.

Pantry Auto-Check on Shopping Lists

A polish item with a big everyday impact: pantry items that are in stock are now automatically pre-checked on the shopping list. Open the list, and everything you already have is already checked. The remaining list is just what you actually need to buy.

💡
Tip: v2.0 shipped 18 changes in a single release — the largest single deployment in MyMealGrid's history to that point. Deployment #63.

Stay in the loop.

More good stuff coming soon.
